Anthony Combs recently gave up the Californian sunshine and moved out to NYC just in time for winter. Perfect timing on his part. Maybe I’ll come back out there to ride some of the incredible street spots NY has to offer when the weather permits. Ramon Antonio, Devon Lawson and I teamed up to cover some of what went down at the 2013 AFC Uproar. Big thanks to Ride SFO for hosting this event year after year, it’s things like this that help build the freestyle community. Which is why we’re going to take matters into our own hands and start hosting more of our own rides, comps & jams. Last night, Mike Schmitt and I met up w/ Dave Beard to shoot some photos and get some noodles in The City. I’m real stoked to have Dave living out in our neck of the woods now. It gives us more opportunities to catch some quality flicks like this. Happy Halloween from Wheel Talk & Turf Bikes.
A while back we teamed up with our friends at SPL Pictures to film this Slow Motion video in San Francisco. Everything was shot on the Sony FS700 and RED Epic, with Cine-Xenar III lenses provided by Schneider Optics. Special thanks to Solid Camera for outfitting the FS700’s for the shoot & our dudes Chris Marino, Tyler Lee Cushing, and Scott Lyman for coming out to film. Devon Lawson completely dominated the bunny hop contest at the 9 States Jam by clearing 100cm (1meter). Which was completely mind blowing to me, I took one look at it and knew there was no way I was clearing it. He won the bunny hop contest, and I won the Jam, it was a dual WT finish, and a happy one at that. You can tell by the look on his face in the bottom shot. Our journey to Japan for the 9 States Jam was by far the most exciting trip I’ve ever been on. I was real stoked to hang out and ride with everybody at the jam. I’m pretty sure we slapped a Wheel Talk sticker on every bike in the place. Not to mention laced everybody up with Breezy Excursion & Us Versus Them gear. A few weeks ago JeffyD, Mikul Eriksson and his crew made it up to SF to meet up with Matt Reyes and make use of the Canon C100 they rented. The day was full of fast tricks and faster riding all over the city, with a lot of commuting footage with some tricks mixed in. Above is a photo of Matt blasting a curb cut over the fire hydrant. I’m stoked to be going on another trip w/ Ed Wonka. It seems like we’ve been on all the same trips over the last year, which I hope is a trend that continues to happen. We took this on my first venture out to the east coast where I stayed with Ed out in Brooklyn. We rode passed this spot, and decided to turn around to check it out. There’s nothing better than putting together makeshift ramps on location. These boards that we found next to the spot proved fruitful as we set one up as a launch onto the loading dock. I can’t wait to be back in NY riding street again.
Earlier today I had a moment to sit down and talk with “the people’s champ” Devon Lawson about our upcoming trip to Japan. During our short conversation, he talked about how grateful he was to have this incredible opportunity, and how he mastered the art of elephant riding in the 2nd grade. He mentioned something about a basketball showdown he has lined up with Nao while we’re out there. It’s going to be a real clash of the titans as these two casanovas go head to head in a battle where the victor goes the spoils. We’re flying out in the morning, so we’ll see everyone out there soon.
