As we gear up to release the video from the Wheel Talk trip to Japan last year, I dug up a bunch of photos that were never posted. Between Seitaro Iki and myself, we shot a ton of stills and even more video. Documenting everything from our daily expeditions around whatever town we were in that day, to our nightly pit stop at Yayoiken for dinner. Keep it posted for the video release, until then check out more photographs HERE. Photo Credit : Seitaro Iki & Matt Reyes

MINKYU SIM IN AMERICA 2014

Minkyu Sim - Johnathan Ball - Elliott Milner - Ride N Style 2014
Minkyu Sim - YNOT Wallet
I came across these photos of Minkyu Sim while transferring footage from Dew & Jaoa’s memory card. Minkyu came out to the Bay Area and stayed with us while he was in town for Ride N Style this year. He was the only dude to come out for the event from Korea and just recently has been in basic training for mandatory military service. You can check out more photos below and watch the video of him that just came out last month.

Here’s some throwback photos of Dew Sippawit from when we flew out to the East Coast to meet up with Ed Wonka and ride street in New York last year. We ventured everywhere from Staten to Queens putting in an easy 20+ miles a day riding from spot to spot. If there’s two things I love about NY it’s the pizza and the abundance of cellar doors scattered throughout the city. Dew banged out a couple quick photos at this bank spot in Staten Island before we hopped on the ferry and headed back into Manhattan. Check out more photos below, or others from our trip to NY HERE.

It’s hard to believe that it’s almost been a year since we stepped foot in Japan. After spending two weeks traveling around the Country, we had grown accustomed to drinking Hennessy with our native friends & sweating it out at the end of everyday in the unbelievably humid climate. If it wasn’t boiling hot outside, it was dumping buckets of rain. Never the less, we quickly overlooked the unfamiliar climate in awe of the unbelievable street spots Japan had to offer. The white shells on the top photo were probably my favorite slice of architecture we encountered. They’d never build something like that in California. They’re far too aware of the consequences to construct such a perfect potato chip. Big thanks to Seitaro Iki for shooting a ton of behind the scenes photos and YSO for making this all happen. Check out more photos from our 2013 trip to Japan HERE.

JAOA DANAIKRIT | CHINA BANKS

Jaoa Danaikrit - China Banks - San Francisco
The other day Jaoa Danaikrit and I went riding around down town and made a pit stop at one of the most iconic spots in San Francisco. The China Banks are deceptively difficult to ride, have been capped for as long as I can remember, and can be a quick bust if you draw too much attention to yourself. Nobody ever said riding street was easy, and despite the challenge, this is one of the sickest spots to ride.

JAPAN TRIP | WONKA MOUNTAIN

Ed Wonka - Japan - Chrome Industries - Double Peg
Ed Wonka - Japan - Mountain Top - Chrome Industries
It’s hard to believe that it’s almost been a year since we left on our voyage to Japan. Editing the video from this trip got put on back burner in order to finish up Word Is Bond, but is now ready to be released. Expect a new Wheel Talk video coming out sometime next week. Until then, here’s a couple photos I dug up of Ed “Wonka” Laforte doing a double peg at this nearly abandoned amusement park we rode while staying in Tokyo. Check out more photos from that day here.

DEW SIPPAWIT | OAKLAND 2014

Dew Sippawit has been staying at our pad here in the Bay Area and whoever else has a couch fit to surf. We’ve been doing a lot more riding on the East Bay this year and have discovered a whole new array of spots in our own backyard. Be on the lookout for photos and videos coming form their stay in the states. Until then check out this photo that Jaoa shot of dew posted up next to his SKYLMT in Oakland’s China Town.

MATT REYES | FILM IS FOREVER

I recently met up with the homie Rudas Priest during lunch and set out on a mission to explore some of my favorite parts of the city. We followed the train tracks walking through fields of used syringes and crushed cans of paint until we came upon this oversized stair case leading nowhere. Rude Boy never leaves the house without his camera and is one of the few photographers I know who shoots strictly on film. It’s like he always says “film is forever”. Head over to his blog to check out more photos from that afternoon HERE. Photo Credit : Rude Boy

JAPAN TRIP | PYRAMID BARSPIN

So much of the architecture in Japan was built without any thought of people one day riding it. We came across this pyramid that seemed almost too good to be true and ran the gamut on it until Devon Lawson & I both emptied out our entire bag of tricks. Seitaro Iki shot these photos of Devon throwing a barspin and looping around to knock out a couple more clips before security caught wind of what we were doing out front.
