BONE MACHINE CRIT 2018 – RACE DAY

Things were heating up at this year’s Bone Machine Crit in Portland. With temperatures in the 90s and riders from all over the country things were bound to pop off. We had New York in the house, fixies from San Francisco, homies from LA, and even some of our neighbors in Seattle came out to represent for the PNW. Chrome Industries rolled up in the Van, setup shop, and sold shoes for $1 a shoe. It was pretty funny to see peoples reactions to such a ridiculous opportunity to cop some new kicks. The bike polo matches raged on throughout the day despite the heat and direct sunlight. They probably had it harder than anyone. I hope they all wore sunblock and didn’t get too roasted.

This event meant a lot to the bike community out here. It’s not everyday that we have our friends from outta town pay us a visit. And with the fixed gear scene back on the rise I think it’s safe to say that Bone Machine Crit will be back again next year. Until then enjoy some of the photos I caught in between shooting video. More below.

BONE MACHINE CRIT 2018 – SATURDAY VIBES

On the second day of Bone Machine Crit too bad it’s not 12 days long, that way we could make our own rendition of that one Christmas song. All that aside, Saturday was a day packed full of bike polo matches, gold sprints, an alley cat and to tie it all together, a bike show put on by Amy Danger. Shout out to Bone Machine for hosting these events. Western Bike Works for letting me spill a beer during gold sprints and being cool about it. And of course anybody else who helped coordinate or make this shit happen. Check out more photos below and keep your eyes peeled for more shots from “Race Day”.

BONE MACHINE CRIT 2018 – ALPENROSE VELODROME

Yesterday we met up at Alpenrose Velodrome and tee’d off what’s about to be an amazing weekend for fixies of all shapes and sizes. Shout out to BONE MACHINE CRIT for orchestrating the good times and giving us a reason to get the band together here in Portland. It’s been 2 years since the last crit that they hosted here in town and we’re glad they decided to bring it back this year.

Here are a bunch of images from the couple hours we spent hanging out and spinning out on one of the steepest Velodromes on the West Coast. The corners are said to be roughly 42-44 degrees making it nearly impossible to stand on and even more fun to ride. Check out 32 more photos below and come kick it with us this weekend if you’re anywhere near the Portland area. It’s gunna be a blast.

FIXED GEAR PORTLAND – FIRST DAY OF SUMMER

Starting things off with a bang. It’s finally feeling like Summer here in the Pacific North West and people in Portland are beginning to come out of hibernation. I met up with a bunch of the dudes at the Chrome Industries PDX HUB and went for a chill ride on the East side of town. After riding to Sellwood and back we came across and spent some time riding this fun little kicker. Dig through the post and check out photos of everyone catching some righteous hangtime.

Fast Forward to later that night. I’m riding home, throw a skid, and tabletop it straight to my left side. I bounced back up, hopped on my bike and immediately knew something was wrong. I made it the rest of the way home, went to the doctor the next day and discovered I broke my clavicle. After a week and a half of doing nothing I made my way to the operating table where they set me up with a sweet new metal plate with a few screws (see photo at the bottom of this post). It’s been almost two weeks since surgery and nearly a month since the initial accident, but things are finally starting to look up. I hope to be back on my bike in the next couple weeks and look forward to rolling with the pack again. Until then enjoy these and many posts to come while I get back up to speed.

FIXED GEAR – 420 ALLEY CAT IN SAN FRANCISCO

It’s four-twenty in San Francisco, and you know what that means. Bikes & buds. We got the gang together and rode around earlier in the day before heading to Union Square for the start of the 3rd Annual 420 Alley Cat. With Mission Crit right around the corner, the turn out for unsanctioned good time was insane. I only rode to half the race before throwing in the towel and taking a load off at the final checkpoint. Joints were being thrown, beers were being slammed and friendly rivalries met their match as people began to trickle into the after party. Shout out to everyone who helped throw this eventful weekend, and to Crihs Thormann for making it even more memorable.

I had a ton of fun piecing this one together, and am stoked to spend more time shooting with this GoPro we just added to our camera arsenal. Keep your eyes peeled for more fun follow footage in the near future.

FIXED GEAR PORTLAND – IN SEARCH OF STOKE

Yesterday, SLAM DUNK ERNIE & I linked up with some of the boys (Christian, Gavin, Avery & Hayato) in downtown Portland and rode to the Eastside in search of stoke and a place to park it. We ended up riding through the industrial area and underneath the bridge before making our way to Laurelhurst Park to ride the dirt step up. These are some of the first few images I’ve shot and edited from the Sony A7III I just picked up. I’m really hyped to have a new digital camera to play with after shooting on the same setup for the last 8 years. Scroll down and check out more photos below.

FIXED GEAR PORTLAND – THIS IS A SIGN

Yesterday cities and communities nationwide banned together in search for a solution to the growing gun problem. On our way downtown to meet up with the boys, @slamdunkernie and I stopped by the “March For Life” rally to see what was going on and support the cause. I usually carry cardboard in my bag, so Ernie decided to make a sign real quick. It’s deep. After that we met up with Christian, Ryan, Gavin & Erik at Chrome PDX and went for a little jaunt up the west hills dodging raindrops every step of the way. We circled up for lunch then found ourselves at my house watching old FGFS video. Everything from “The Revival” to “Revoked” to the full length Wheel Talk film that we never release. I know, it’s been a long time coming and is far overdue at this point. You know what they say, better late than never. We’ll set a deadline and release it later this spring. As always, keep your eyes peeled.

MASHSF – STEEL SS FRAMESET “SILVER SMOKE”

If you build it they will come. MASHSF has been cooking up fresh new frames of their own for quite some time now and the day has finally come for our first look at what they’ve been building. I hadn’t seen too much leading up to the release and was as stoked as anyone else to see what they whipped up. Here are some of the first photos I took of my new MASH Steel SS Frameset. I’m really feeling the Silver Smoke colorway Mike kicked over. It has this really rustic and worn look while still holding onto this brilliant shine. It’s truly a work of art and looks even better in person. If you’re in San Francisco anytime soon I suggest you swing by the shop and check it out. More photos to come, until then check out more on MASH.

FIXED GEAR PORTLAND – SUPER BOWL SUNDAY 2018

It’s Super Bowl Sunday here in Portland and this is the 4th year in a row that we’ve assembled the community to ride bikes and cause a ruckus instead of watching the big game. Bikes > Football. It’s a special time of year and we always use it as a good excuse to get out and film a day video. I always bring a football (which we lost in the river), some jerseys and whatever other sports props I can find. It’s never much, but it’s always enough to make things a little more interesting.

With more than 20 of Portland’s finest + Jacob Ruff who came down from Seattle to ride, we kicked things off right and kept the good times going. There’s a strong contingency of riders lurking around PDX. More and more keep coming out of the woodwork and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Keep your eyes peeled for more coming out of the Pacific Northwest, and if you live in Portland lets ride sometime. Press play, check out a bunch of screenshots below.

FIXED GEAR PORTLAND – DEVIN TOLMAN MOSSY SKID

A glimpse of what’s to come. Here’s a little sneak peek of Devin Tolman wiping the slate clean during the filming of our latest Super Bowl Sunday video here in Portland. There’s so much moss growing all over the place, that I’m glad we were able to put a patch of it to good use. Keep your eyes peeled for the full video dropping later next week.
