Randy Rush is always on the move and was constantly riding hard during the short time we hung out with him in NY. When we were all tired / kicking back he was still hopping over things and getting after it. Midway through the day he showed us a tattoo of his that said “FGFS 4 LIFE” and then followed it up by saying we are the 1%. He’s one of the many riders paving the way for a new FGFS scene in New York; they call themselves, the Block Bullies. Keep your eyes peeled for more coming out of NY and check out other shots of Randy below.

Canadian Native, Charlie Sauve was coincidentally in NY the same time we were. So we met up, hung out, and stacked some clips of him for the video we’re making of our trip there. I’ve never met Charlie up until this point and almost didn’t recognize form all of the TAZ Skatepark videos he’s made. Read more below to check out another shot of him riding over the Brooklyn bridge, as well as his latest web video.

The dudes over at Red Bull really one upped themselves with the construction of this year’s Over/Under mini drome. 64 riders from around the world came out to shred, sweat & battle it out on this a one of a kind figure 8 track. On top of competing in the race, Mike Schmitt & I filmed a ton during the event and put together this video of the night as it unfolded. Read more below to check out Red Bull’s official recap as well as a bunch of screen shots from our video.

After nearly 9 months of being out of commission, I finally brushed the dust off the 35mm camera and brought it along on our trip to New York last weekend. Although I only shot one roll of film during the four days we were there, I made up for it by taking a million more digital photos that I’ll be posting up over the next few weeks. We met up with a bunch of the riders from the Block Bullies while we were there and even saw a couple FGFS riders from out of town who came out for the Red Bull Over/Under race. We’re going to start cutting together a video from our trip in the next couple of days and will release that in the next month or so. Until then, check out more photos below.

The moment Mike Schmitt & I caught wind of the Red Bull Over / Under event in NYC we immediately looked up tickets and made arrangements to attend. It seemed like a good excuse to travel and ride street somewhere other than our own backyard. We landed the day of practice, got in a couple laps and showed up the next night for the big event. The head to head races were made up of 32 of the best fixed gear riders from all over the globe. Only one person from each race would advance to the next bracket and have to ride another 5 laps around the figure 8 Mini Drome. After making it through the first few rounds of eliminations, I knew I’d have to go up against my good friend and fierce adversary Addison Zawada . That time finally came when we crossed paths in the semi-finals and I washed out and fell coming into the second lap. After that Addison advanced to the finals and came home with the gold. Big thanks to everyone who helped make this event happen and I look forward to seeing where they take it from here. Check out an IG clip of our race below.

Anytime we link up with Dave Beard, there’s magic in the air. Sparks fly, time stops and occasionally we’ll shoot a photo or two. All jokes aside, Dave is one of the most brilliant photographers I know. He rarely makes his presence known, and acts like a fly on the wall shooting things as they happen without coordinating with the people in the image. The results create a truly genuine depiction of the moment and have an incredibly natural feel. If you’re just surfing the internet, then I highly recommend you head over to his blog to check out more of Dave’s golden turds.

Jaoa Danaikrit just released the video from the Black Sunday & Wheel Talk trip to Thailand last year. Featuring riding from the likes of Devon Lawson, Anthony Combs, Jaoa Danaikrit & Steven Jensen. This star studded cast takes on Thailand as they both ride the streets and explore the jungles. Jaoa did an amazing job cutting this together and slayed it with all of the incredible time lapse footage. For a while we weren’t sure if Devon was ever going to come back home because he enjoyed life out there so much. Anthony is by far one of the most entertaining dudes I’ve ever known and has some of the best dance moves out of everyone on the team. Steven Jensen came through packing heat and pulled one of the gnarliest grind combos I’ve ever seen towards the end. Kick back, press play and enjoy the show.

In light of the 3 day weekend that happened recently, we piled into the back of the Rack Solid Van and took a day trip to ride some spots that are typically out of our reach. Mike Schmitt switched his drivetrain over to the other side and banged out a couple quick crooked grinds for the camera before we left the spot in search of other gems like this. I shot the angle from below first and then climbed up Mike’s back and onto the roof to shoot separate angles from over head. Considering the fact that none of us own a car, it’s great that we’re able borrow the Van and explore other parts of the Bay. Big thanks and shout out to our dudes over at Rack Solid.
Late last year I had the opportunity to fly to Beijing China where I participated in the Fixed Gear Open 6, hung out with the locals, and got a taste for some of the hidden talent lurking in the FGFS scene in China. I was real impressed with the level in which everybody was riding and was stoked on all of the impressive flat ground combos everyone was throwing down. Although this trip wasn’t that long ago, I already can’t wait for the next Fixed Gear Open and look forward to coming back asap. Check out other angles of this quick group shot below.

Last Summer I flew out to New York with Dew Sippawit and stayed at Ed “Wonka” Laforte’s house in Brooklyn. Here’s a handful of older photos that were taken during our two week stay and never released until now. If you went to the Word Is Bond Premiere in SF then you’ve probably already seen the sequence wallride off the red cellar door. Or if you’ve watched the Wheel Talk 2013 Edit I put out last year then I’m sure you recognize the clip. Aside from that, It was rad riding the spot where Peel Sessions was held (beneath a bridge in Brooklyn). A location that may as well been known as the birthplace of FGFS. If you haven’t heard of it until now, I suggest you do some digging into the history of Fixed Gear Freestyle and get up to speed. Check out some more photos from NY HERE. Photo Credit – Dew Sippawit
