FGFS PORTLAND – 35MM

Life is better with grain. Film photos always have such stronger feels and carry such a greater reward for capturing the moment with a single click. It’s been minute since the homies from down south were in town. Still having a hard time calling Portland a city. Feels more like a suburb with a skyline. More trees than buildings over 2 stories tall.

I tried shooting an old roll of color Kodachrome while they were here. Lets just say it didn’t work out as planned. Haha. It basically came out as a bunch of gray images. That roll aside, here are some photos that did turn out. Until next time my dudes. (Riders: Miguel Zendejas, Johnathan Ball, Josh Silva, Ramon Antonio III, Sam Allgood)

35MM – MASSAN FLUKER

Massan Fluker rolled into The Bay Area just in time to be here to see the Golden State Warriors win the 2015 NBA Championships. These photos are mad old at this point, but I figured they were still worth the share. This was the first time we got the Chrome Familia together in what seemed like forever. Jealous of the sweet Warriors memorabilia. Those shades look sick af.

35MM – ALONSO TAL

Dusted some cobwebs off of these photos and got them up in cyberspace. I’m pretty sure this was the first time I met Alonso Tal. If I remember correctly, don’t take my word for it. These were from the Chrome Familia photoshoot we did in San Francisco / Oakland back in 2015. I guess it’s true what they say. Time flies when you’re having fun.

35MM CHINA – MATT REYES

There’s nothing like digging up old photos to bring back memories. Sometimes it feels like you’re resurrecting the dead with the things you almost forgotten about. I’m sure I’m not the only one who looks through my phone in the morning to piece together what happened the night before. A photo can take you right back to that place and helps paint a clearer image in your mind.

Here are a bunch of photos from that one time we all rode bikes in China. What an experience that was. Almost forgot all about these shots. Check out more below. (more…)

120MM – JACKSON BRADSHAW SF

120mmShot number 191

Jackson Bradshaw was in town a couple weeks ago to film for the full length F.O.A.D video entitled “The Good Times Are Killing Me”. They’ve been working on this video for quite some time now and they’re ramping up to premiere it on October 8th in Salt Lake City. If you live anywhere near SLC and ride FGFS then I suggest you mark your calendar and support the scene. Here are a few medium format photos of Jackson during the first day we met up to ride. Check out the ghostly 2’s the top image picked up during the scanning process. Shooting film never ceases to surprise me.

35MM – GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE

It’s easy to get stuck in the bubble living in San Francisco. It’s hard to leave when you have just about everything you need within walking distance. I’ve lived in the city for 7 years now and have only been across the Golden Gate Bridge a handful of times. So when I met up w/ Bryan Dempler to ride a couple weeks ago we ventured out to enjoy the one thing SF doesn’t have; open space.

My 35mm camera has lived in the bottom of my bag ever since I got it back up and running a few weeks ago. I’ve already developed a hand full of rolls since then, and have been really enjoying having it back in our arsenal. I rode by the developer after work and picked up these photos we shot during the 4th of July video TURF released earlier this morning. Read more below to check out other photos we took throughout the day. Shot on 35mm Ilford 3200 Black & White film.

With the new year right around the corner I took the time today to go through and post some photos from when Jaoa Danaikrit was staying with us in the Bay Area earlier this year. My personal favorite photo from this set is the shot of Jaoa standing next to my Dad (Wheel Talk Team Manager) after a long day at the horse races in Berkley. There’s nothing like betting on ponies, drinking dollar beers, and eating hot dogs while spending quality time with the family. The shot of everybody posted up next to the Rack Solid van was from the day we filmed the “Alameda Send Off” video of the Thai dudes last day in town. 35mm - Dew Sippawit - Mike Schmitt - San Francisco - Back Alley Barspin
It feels like only yesterday that Dew Sippawit was surfing our couch here in the Bay Area while we ventured around San Francisco looking for a good time. Here’s some 35mm photos from a recently developed roll, as well as some shots from a not so recently developed roll of film. If there’s one thing I miss about the Thai dudes being here, it’s the authentic Thai cuisine they whipped up for the family every night. There’s nothing like stopping by the asian market to pick up some cheap produce before before heading home to a warm meal and whiskey. Read more below, or check out more 35mm photos HERE.

The longer you wait to develop a roll of film the more of a mystery your shots become. Here’s some 35mm photos I took of Cole Ruffing riding the elementary school in our old neighborhood earlier this year. I almost forgot about this day until I was flipping through prints at Photoworks on my ride home from work this week. Daylight savings time has barely begun and I already long for the extended hour of sunlight they’ve stolen from us. I guess we’ll have to wait until next year, when they switch back the clocks. Until then, check more 35mm photos HERE and read more below for an additional image from this roll.
