35MM | DEVON LAWSON 2014

35mm - Devon Lawson - Wheel Talk - Double Exposure
35mm - Double Exposure - Devon Lawson - Brick Squad
After burning through a couple rolls of film trying to figure out how to shoot double exposures, I managed to get a few shots that I think turned out half way decent. I’m not sure if Devon Lawson has ever taken a bad picture, but these could be the best shots I’ve ever taken of him. Now that we’re all moved into our new spot in SF, I want to start bringing my Olympus OM1 out with us when we ride more often. Read more below or check out more 35mm Photos HERE.

35MM – ED WONKA 2014

Double Exposures were something that I experimented with quite a bit when I first started shooting 35mm film, and have since then fallen out of touch with this drunken sense of double vision. Here’s some of the first few double exposures I took, featuring Fixed Gear Freestyle’s very own Ed “Wonnka” Laforte. Although it may sometimes be difficult to see, I enjoy the added interest stacking shots gives to the photograph. Case and point being the image on top that shows both a closeup and wide shot of the same grind. Read more below or check out other 35mm photos HERE.

35MM | ALAMEDA SKATEPARK

35mm - Jaoa Danaikrit - Alameda Skatepark - Foot Jam Whip

35mm - Devon Lawson - Alameda Skatepark - TBog

If there’s one thing I miss about living in Alameda, it’s the skatepark hidden away in the abandoned military base on the island. Here’s a shot of Jaoa Danaikrit doing a foot jam whip and Devon Lawson throwing a T-Bog over the ledge splitting the fun box. It’s great having both scans and prints of these photos, to share with people not only online, but in person as well. Check out more 35mm shots HERE.

35mm - China - Fixed Gear Open 6 - Ines Brunn - Freestyle Competition

35mm - China - Fixed Gear Open 6 - Jaoa Danaikrit - Table Top - BW

Here’s some 35mm photos from the Fixed Gear Open 6 competition that was held in (Beijing) China earlier this year. I can’t even begin to describe or explain what a fucking good time this trip was. Having Dew Sippawit & Jaoa Danaikrit there for every step of the adventure was a crucial part of the trip and made going about life in this foreign land even easier. If you’ve never been on a trip w/ the homies, I highly advise you plan one; it’s quite possibly the only way to travel. Ines Brunn was there to compete and show people a side of fixed gear that most have forgotten and little attempt. The Thai boys came through and destroyed the cheese wedge I managed to catch shots of Jaoa’s tabletop and Dew’s tuck no hander to barspin. Check out more 35mm photos HERE.

35mm - Fixie Boyz 408 - China Town - Oakland 2014
Every so often the dudes from San Jose come up to stay at our pad in the East Bay and ride over the weekend. Jimmy Watcha, Kent Ly, and Luciano Ortiz are just a few of the local riders from SJ that you should keep your eye on. After a long day of riding street spots in Oakland, we hit up China Town to grab some cheap grub before riding back under the bay through the Webster Tube. Check out more 35mm Photos HERE.

35MM | COMMUNITY SERVICE

With an endless sea of new terrain, we’ve been putting in work uncovering and uncapping spots for the betterment of the community. Here’s a few black & white 35mm photos that just came back from the lab of everybody hanging out and riding in Oakland last weekend. Dew blasted a huge toboggan across this stair set, landing on just the last few steps while MTS filmed from the side. Ed Wonka came through to shred and remind us why tooth hangovers are his specialty. And Devon Lawson and Jaoa Danaikrit shared some ice cream. Check out more below.

MATT REYES | FILM IS FOREVER

I recently met up with the homie Rudas Priest during lunch and set out on a mission to explore some of my favorite parts of the city. We followed the train tracks walking through fields of used syringes and crushed cans of paint until we came upon this oversized stair case leading nowhere. Rude Boy never leaves the house without his camera and is one of the few photographers I know who shoots strictly on film. It’s like he always says “film is forever”. Head over to his blog to check out more photos from that afternoon HERE. Photo Credit : Rude Boy

35MM | RIDE & STYLE 2014

I recently developed an older roll of film that had some 35mm photos from this year’s Red Bull Ride & Style. I managed to pop off a few photos of friends in between riding, racing & filming that day. It’s nice to have tangible images to hold after shooting digital for so long. The dudes at GASS Parks have the production of ramps down to a science, and were kind enough to grind the paint off all the coping. Zane Meyer was there to help capture some of the action and contribute to the video recap we made of the event. All in all, so much happened that day that I could never fully speak to all of it so I’m just going to have to let the photos and videos speak for themselves. Check out more photos below. (more…)

TURF BIKES – SUNDAZE EP.6

We spent the Sunday before Ride & Style riding around California St & China Town. Mike Schmitt rolled the edge of the China Banks that drop off onto the street below. Dave Beard popped off some great B&W medium format shots of Ramon Antonio III riding pegs down an alley way rail and hopping into this 8 flat 9. Check out some more 35mm photos I shot of everyone down below.

TURF BIKES | SUNDAZE EP.5

Last Sunday Mike Schmitt & I cruised around our humble island abode here in Alameda and brought along with us the trusty 35mm Camera. We lurked around the abandoned military base & rode along the incredibly windy coastline in search of spots in less than likely locations. I came across an old truck bench that we pulled out of the trash and sessioned for a bit. After catching a couple quick photos we ventured into the tall grass along the coast and circled back into the old Naval Base where Mike rolled this barred fence that was propped up against another. I was the most stoked to find this teeter totter that we had previously thought was gone for good after its recent disappearance. Check out more photos below, and stay tuned for the next episode of TURF Sundaze. (more…)
