Last weekend I took the train down to San Jose to do some riding and filming with everyone out there. Christian Hamrick just moved out to the West Coast and got a place in DTSJ w/ Mike Schmitt. It seems like everyone from the East Coast is making their way West. The top photo is a group shot of Hambone’s Bike, and the bottom is a shot of just about everyone. (Ed, Mike, Scott, Devon, Hamrick, Montoya, & Jeff)
Matt Rice from Deal With It SF posted some pictures of his updated large Specailized PFIX. Looks good for a large, especially with those new 420 bars, and knobby tires. I always enjoy seeing other peoples PFIX builds, if you have a picture of your bike and want to share it with us post it up HERE.
This Week, I created a bunch of Wheel Talk Desktops backgrounds for your viewing pleasure. Click the image to get the high res file for your computer, or read more to check out some of the other versions. Lemme know what you think. If there’s a positive enough reaction, then I’ll make some more in the near future. (more…)
On Sunday, everyone’s favorite, Joshua Boothby made his way across the Bay to ride Street w/ Mike & I in SF. We managed to get in a few solid hours of filming before the sun went down on us. This curved hubba is one of the most beautiful left side ledges I’ve ever seen. Boothby put on quite a show for the tourists walking along the beach as he racked around this buttery ass Hubba in front of Ghirardelli Square. We even took a minute to stop and do interviews with a family for their home videos. Broke down what’s good w/ Fixed Freestyle in the Bay, and the world at large.
Submissions have now come to a close, and we’ve read some truly inspiring stories. More than 300 people submitted, and we had a hell of a time sorting through and narrowing it down to just 1 lucky winner. We had Moms submitting for sons, girlfriends submitting for boyfriends, and even friends submitting for friends. It was these selfless acts are what helped us make our final decision. “Read More” to see the winning entry. (more…)
Mike Schmitt caught this slightly over exposed shot of me while we were out filming in the Persidio last weekend. This tuck no into the steep/muddy grass bank was one of the last things we captured before the sun set on another mint day in the city. With tuck no handers it’s all about folding up like a lawn chair and touching your shoulder to that front wheel. They are almost like barspins, you just have to throw those bars.
Sean Coats & Mike Dinh are the Kenan & Kel of Fixed Gear. The two are literally attached at the hip, and I’ve never seen one, without the other. The dynamic duo do anything and everything together and are virtually inseparable. This is what riding bikes is all about, hanging out and having good times with your friends. I would have never met more than half of my really good friends if I never rode Fixed Freestyle.
Mike has been rocking the BalHogs grip strip on his down tube for quite a while now, and he’s been utilizing it to come up with some rather unique maneuvers. Mainly for mobbing down hill with his feet off the pedals and ass tucked behind the seat. Hanging so far back off the bike. Head over to the BalHogs webstore and pick one up while they’re still around, I know I can’t wait to slap one on my whip.
