I can’t even begin to put into words how stoked I am to take 1st place in the Freestyle event at the 2013 Red Bull Ride & Style. It was real rad to see so many international riders out here for the competition. This photo of Kenny Arimoto blasting me w/ the cooler came out too good. There was a slight sense of deja vu at Ride and Style 2013, as both Jason Clary and I took first in our respective events. I don’t know what it is, but I’m beginning to think it might have something to do with the daily commute up and down the steep ass hills here in the city. I was more stoked to take part of the racing event than the Freestyle competition this year. It was intense watching racers go head to head and rack trough turns on the slick bricks down at Justin Herman Plaza.
Although I didn’t get a chance to ride the ramps, I was able to take some photos and check out what they have in store for everyone at Ride & Style this year. I don’t want to give too much away before all the artists finish painting everything. Until then, this photo will have to suffice. Riders should start trickling into the city within the next few days, cant’ wait to get all the homies together again.
This Saturday we’re premiering Shredwell2 in San Jose at iMiNUSD. We’re going to have a street session before hand while Ed Wonka is in town. We plan to meet up at CCP around 3pm and then roll around from spot to spot before we head to IMD for the screening around 7pm. Bring your bike, your buds, and we’ll see you there.
Our boy Jeff Dempler won the best trick contest with this perfectly executed Gap to Feeble 180 down the hubba. This is arguably the cleanest trick I’ve ever seen him do, which is probably why he walked away w/ the win. Bomb Hills Speed Kills did a pretty killer job covering the event, and personally I think the photos he shot from up top the crows nest turned out the best. Partially because of the unique angle and brightly lit background, which creates great contrast. BHSK has an established style and overall consistent look to his photographs. Bomb Hills Speed Kills was at the event getting photo coverage of both days of competition. Here’s a shot that he took of Jeff Dempler from up in the judges booth. Here’s another photo from the 2012 AFC Uproar that I pulled from Alberto Fox’s Flickr. I spent most of the time shooting video, and only took a few photo’s that day. Which is why I was stoked to see so many photos popping up from all over. Xup’s are another trick that I haven’t done in a while. Alberto Fox brought his camera to the 2012 AFC Uproar and caught this nice flick of me throwing a tuck no hander during one of the heats. I especially liked this photo because of JeffyD and his girl lurking in the background. Steph was filming from up top the Chrome Truck most of the day. I knew we parked that thing there for a reason. Here’s a shot that Lance Jeffrey Skundrich took of Devon Lawson throwing a quick barspin at the 2012 AFC UPROAR competition. Devon has the fastest barspins in the game, every one of which is dialed beyond belief. For those who have seen him throw em’ already know, but for those who haven’t, imagine butter melting over a pile of flapjacks on a warm autumn day. It’s kinda like that. Check out more photos HERE.
